MURDER OF CROWS
Written by Bill Irwin (SOCAN)
Back up against the Rockies, where the Alberta foothills begin
Clouds’l quickly fill the air, pushed in on western winds The headwaters of a rocky creek, that floods out every spring
Hides a broken down fence that was built to keep out everything

No one knows what happens there
‘Cause no one ever goes
Rumours still fly around about a murder
Murder of crows

A faded path leads in from the fence, to a clearing obscured with weeds
Where tire tracks, wind through the grass, that’s growing up to your knees
A worn-out barn‘s still standing, with a bent and twisted spine
Bony fingers clutch the roof; shadows from Lodgepole pines

No one knows what happens there
‘Cause no one ever goes
Rumours still fly around about a murder
Murder of crows

These woods voice the howl of the wolf and the growl of the grizzly bear
There’s different noises now, that scream and split the air

Sundays after midnight, on dark and moonless nights
4 x 4’s come rolling in and the barn is filled with lights
After hours of blades and saws, the wreckage is seized by prey
The floor is quickly washed, the blood slowly seeps away

No one knows what happens there
‘Cause no one ever goes
Rumours still fly around about a murder
Murder of crows……… murder of crows
